Janet and I represented Towneley at the Elsie Corlett finals yesterday at Bury Golf Club.
Quite a nerve racking experience when a few teenage girls take an iron to a hole that I have my driver out for, but none the less we put our game heads on to give it a go.
Unfortunately for Janet, I wasnt much company for her due to an extreme hangover from a very late drinking night in London the night before, so with a green face and wobbly hands I rocked up to try, at least the weather was lovely and we have the extreme sunburn to evidence the day's attendance!
With a few random holes scoring 8's and 10's we managed to scrape respectable scores, Janet with a nett 74 and myself with a nett 71 so quite respectable against the young un's!
Not sure if you are aware, the comp is split into Division 1(10-20 handicap) and Division 2(21-36 handicap) with the lowest net scoring of both divisions eventually winning the Silver Plate.
As we were one of the first teams out, when our scores were updated, our scores looked very good compared with the rest of the field at the time, so Janet came up with the mental idea that we should play another 9 holes whilst we wait for everybody to come back in!!(WHY would we do that???)
So, 9 holes later we are back in, with more sunburn to show for it, at least my hangover has gone!
Time for the presentation(and I have dragged on this story long enough now.....)
For Division 2 the first place was myself, second place Janet.........and unfortunately the winner from Division 1 beat my net score by 2 shots......so she won the Silver plate overall.
Janet no doubt will fill you in about my 2 fresh air shots and numerous putts missed....... But none the less, we get our photo's and name on the Lancashire Ladies website and have hopefully represented our club well.
Thanks for all of your good luck messages, much appreciated.
See you Sunday hopefully, and attached is the photo.
